Our vision is that by 2030, regenerative inclusive food systems contribute to the transformation of the agricultural sector and the Ethiopian pathway to prosperity. Our mission is to facilitate the generation, validation and dissemination of knowledge and practices on regenerative inclusive food systems (RIFS) where functional living labs facilitate the realization of innovation co-creation, inclusiveness and ecosystem health.
The living labs are collaborative actions by stakeholders who develop and learn together to improve their own situations for the benefit of the broader food system and our life-sustaining environment. We call this regenerative, inclusive food systems. Innovation in a variety of areas plays a role: technological, social, economic, organizational, and political. Five principles are guiding us in the development: (1) Sense of place and purpose, (2) Ecological design for innovation, (3) Connectedness, nestedness, (4) Fair, just and inclusive transition, and (5) Living process. A black pepper living lab unlocks the local potential in Tepi, in the Southwestern part of Ethiopia. In the Southwestern part of Ethiopia, in South Achefer, we harness the local potential around innovative integrated farming systems.
